Name the New Orange Hero
Tuesday December 11, 2007
He is even to feature on Christmas cards ... once he has been christened, that is. The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has unveiled a cartoon figure that will help them spread knowledge about the order's work and aims in Northern Ireland. Showing a toothy smile that puts the Rev. Dr. Ian Paisley into the shade, the orange-clad take on a superhero sports the order's regalia, a violet cape and boots plus s blonde mop of hair. No bowler hat, though. Now all that is missing is a name. Wags already suggested "The Boyne Wonder". "Sash Gordon" was favored by a journalist. Myself, I am quite partial to the simple "Orangeman". But this seems to have been ruled out because the spandex-wearing loyalist superhero is supposed to the a youth.
The Orange Order invites entries with prospective names until January 10th - send them directly to Schomberg House, 368 Cregagh Road, Belfast, BT6 9EY, United Kingdom.
