My Best Overnight Stay 2012

By December 20, 2012

Follow me on:

Thinking back upon the passing year, I remembered a number of overnight stays in Ireland - from the very mundane (a cheap night at Dublin airport) via the common-and-garden (a nice B&B in Waterford, unfortunately closed now) to the exclusive and exquisite. And I thought to myself ... which was the best of them all? Funnily enough I couldn't name one. Because two were in such tight competition that it would have been a toss of a coin.

So, let me give honourable mention to both Temple House and Ballinderry Park here. Temple House, the Perceval family home, gave us outstanding hospitality in County Sligo. And Ballinderry Park, run by the wonderful George Gossip, did the same in East Galway. Both come highly recommended.

As a history buff, Temple House was maybe the place that should have taken the title, the comfort was great, the surroundings simply sumptuous. Except for the long history much the same could be said for Ballinderry Park, and there the food was simply manna from heaven. So, consider yourselves praised, both Percevals and Gossips ... and keep up the good work

Totally agree Bernard a stay in any of the Hidden Ireland houses is a great treat and a real experience …
