- Convenient way to experience Lough Erne and Ireland's inland waterways.
- Life commentary.
- Visit to Devenish Island included.
- On-board bar.
- Dinner cruises available.
- Waterbus can get cramped and hot.
- Restricted timetable.
- Normal trips on the "Kestrel" last just under two hours, including a thirty minute stay on Devenish Island.
- Longer evening dinner trips are offered on weekends, food is served in a waterside hotel.
- There should be ample parking at the Round O Quay at most times - weekends might be a bit tight though.
If there is one drawback of this venture it is the slightly erratic timetable - it may be best to phone ahead to enquire about current sailing times. The best chance to catch the boat is in July and August, with up to four daily departures.
Apart from this a trip on the "Kestrel of Belfast" makes a perfect half day on Lough Erne. Leaving from the Round O Quay, a few minutes walk from Enniskillen Castle, the waterbus will have you in unspoilt nature within minutes. Passing castles, pastures and (with luck) the local wildlife at its best.
A highlight of the trip is the stop on Devenish Island. You have about thirty minutes to explore the ecclesiastical ruins on the island, including two round towers (one of which you might miss unless you look down from the other).
Tbe "Kestrel" can get a bit cramped when full to capacity, but all-round windows make for great views in any case. On sunny days with little wind it might get pretty warm underneath this glass canopy, but large sliding windows bring some relief.
