Canoeing on Barrow and Nore, rivers meandering from the midlands to the south coast, is one of the more tranquil outdoor experiences you may have in Ireland.

To reach Hook Head Lighthouse you have to go down right to the southern tip of the sizable Hook Peninsula. Which takes time and some patience. But the jorney is rewarding.

Located north of Wexford and near an imposing tower house, the Irish National Heritage Park aims to present a few thousand years of Irish history. Unless you are prepared for a lot of travel and to conjure images from ruins you will get no better comprehensive glimpse into Ireland's past than here.

Unless you are seriously interested in the Knights Templar you might as well ignore Templetown. A few graveslabs and some ultimately insignificant medieval ruins are the main attraction here - apart from the pub.
