- Huge venue with dance floor, bars and restaurant.
- City center location near St Stephen's Green with good access to public transport.
- Tex-Mex food in good quality and medium price range.
- Very lively venue.
- Venue can get too lively with "stag" and "hen" parties.
- Huge "megapub" on several levels with bars, restaurant and dance floor.
- "Western" theme pub with some rustic touches and Tex-Mex food.
- Located behind the St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre.
While "Break for the Border" will not have you start singing "Home on the Range" and line-dancing is a rarity, the Western theme makes the enormous megapub homely to a certain degree. The bar areas are spacious enough to get a drink without being crushed to within an inch of your life and the dance floor allows some energetic movement. You'll feel like a performer though - other people can watch (and occasionally spill beer) from balconies.
The restaurant caters for every taste, with a strong emphasis on Tex-Mex and even some Thai dishes thrown in. While Tex-Mex in Europe can be indifferent the food at "Break for the Border" is actually quite good. So are the prices. A meal with a drink can be had for 15 to 20, not bad value for the city center and certainly worth the price. Portions are medium size but satisfying.
While the venue can be cozy in the early evenings, it will certainly fill up as the night moves along. One thing to bear in mind are "hen" and "stag" parties that tend to drop in with alarming frequency. While most are fun, some (or too many of them at the same time) can be annoying, especially if you are there for dinner.
