- Reasonably priced eatery with a quick service.
- Tasty Korean dishes with generous helpings.
- Central location.
- Very well patronized by the Korean and general Asian community.
- Very basic comforts reminiscent of a student refectory.
- Can get crowded around lunchtime.
- Restaurant integrated into a Korean supermarket, loxated centrally on Dublin's northside.
- Popular with Korean ex-patriates and usually busy at lunchtime, serving fresh meals.
- The original Korean food is not too spicy for the Western palate, so feel free to experiment.
- Browse through the supermarket for snacks and drinks as well.
- Communication problems occasionally occur, but staff is happy to help and most linguistic obstacles are overcome quickly.
Han Yang was an accidental discovery and a revelation - hidden just off the Millennium Walk, dominated by Italian eateries, the bustling Korean supermarket-cum-restaurant serves the around 3,000-strong Korean community of Dublin. And it serves its countrymen well, it seems: the restaurant is very basic, but busy. Serving freshly cooked meals from around noon to around 6 pm. Longer if there is still demand.
Lunchtime can be crowded - but it also provides the best choice of meals (clearly outlined on their website).
Special recommendations? Having by now munched my way through the whole menu I am quite partial to the combined squid and seafood platter with a generous helping of kim chi (pickled cabbage) on the side. Though it might be off-putting for some to see the fresh squid being sold at the seafood counter nearby. Sometimes it is better not to know ...
For a quick bite on the run try the ready-made kim bap, sushi-like rice rolls sold at a bargain price. Very popular with the office crowd it seems.
