In a Nutshell:

Ireland's premier center for all things horticultural - especially popular with Dubliners out for an aesthetically pleasing Sunday stroll through (tamed) nature.

Where Do I Find the National Botanic Gardens?

In Glasnevin, cut off from the enormous cemetery to the south by a high and long wall. Botanic Road (unsurprisingly) leads past the gardens and is served by bus lines.

How Do I Get to the National Botanic Gardens?

You will either have to take a bus or drive there yourself - there are no rail stations near, tour buses generally do not venture here and it is quite a walk from the city center.

What are the Opening Times for the National Botanic Gardens?

daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - but the glasshouses will close during lunchtime.

A Short History of the Park:

The Botanic Gardens were established in 1795 to provide search possibilities ... and a spectacular showcase. This really came into being when in 1843 the Dublin ironmaster Richard Turner turned his attention to the gardens and built the magnificent glasshouses.

What to Expect at the National Botanic Gardens?

Plants of all sorts, naturally, almost 20,000 different species. Spring and summer are a riot of color and scent. But thanks to Turner's glasshouses the "season" extends even into deepest winter, with banana trees, bamboo, orchids and giant water lilies from the Amazon providing many "ooohs" and "aaahs" even for the casual visitor. Gardeners will delight in the herbacous displays and (if energetic enough) the vegetable plots. Most visitors will admire the roses, or the arboretum.

Is this Park Secure?

Yes - unless you are suffering from hayfever.

Food and Drink in the National Botanic Gardens:

Nearby you will find "The Grave Diggers" (Prospect Square), a pub reputedly haunted.
