Eddie Rocket's Diners - Irish Fast-Food Chains

About.com Rating 4

By Bernd Biege, About.com

The Bottom Line
Eddie Rocket's is the Irish take on an US-American institution, the diner. Offering mainly burgers, fries, sodas and milkshakes. Decorated in a period style that fits neatly between "Rebel Without A Cause" and "American Graffiti". You can almost believe the Fonz is going to come in anytime soon. A fun place to eat - unless you are sitting next to a table of screaming kids or near-hysterical teenagers.
Pros
  • Recreation of a "typical" US-American diner.
  • Uncomplicated menu restricted mainly to variations on the hamburger theme.
  • Food is tasty and filling.
  • Excellent milkshakes and sodas.
Cons
  • As items are ordered individually, prices can add up quickly.
  • Eating out of wrapping paper may not be for everyone.
  • Can be crowded and loud.
  • Late-night additional fee on orders.
Description
  • Replica US diner with a definite rock'n'roll-era feel.
  • Basic food with loads of extras available, the humble burger and fries are the culinary center of attention.
  • Sodas and milkshakes are excellent.
Guide Review - Eddie Rocket's Diners - Irish Fast-Food Chains

Eddie Rocket's is popular, and quite rightly so. But if you want to sit down and relax for a while you might want to avoid the daylight hours and early evenings. Then the place is often frequented by Ireland's youth, apparently many of the hyperactive persuasion. Which can be a trying experience unless you bring your own kids.

It is best to pick a quieter time and choose from the simple menu, concentrating on burgers and fries. Which will be served wrapped in greasepaper and be simply dumped on your table. Fingerfood.

If you don't mind this uncomplicated arrangement, you’ll find that the burgers are tasty and filling. And the extras as described - the Atomic Burger will really nuke your tastebuds and the garlic fries will ensure you some private space in even the most crowded cinema. Wash it down with a chocolate soda. These are to die for and almost a meal on their own.

One word of warning, though: prices!

Eddie Rocket's is not overly expensive per se, but you will get a burger meal cheaper at the golden arches. In fact you order all parts of your meal separately, easily adding up a larger bill than you intended to. It is worth it, but if you are on a budget ... at least avoid late-night dinig here, a surcharge to cover staff costs will be charged.

Note: As this is a general review of a chain of restaurants individual restaurants may provide better or worse service!
